The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) has recently adopted a new definition for traumatic brain injury or TBI. The newly BIAA adopted definition reads:

TBI is defined as an alteration in brain function, or other evidence of brain pathology, caused by an external force.

“The new definition incorporates the emerging evidence that signs and symptoms of the injured brain may emerge over time,” said Dr. Wayne Gordon of Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

BIAA believes that the new definition will help clarify the disease process and help expound on the many varying outcomes present in people who have sustained a TBI. BIAA also believes that it will better reflect the more recent research conducted by experts throughout the United States.

Traumatic Brain Injury Victims

If you or someone you love has suffered a TBI, you are probably not all that concerned about definitions and technical terms. Your number one concern is getting the medical treatment necessary.

You will also need to determine if the traumatic brain injury was a result of someone else’s negligence. An experienced California brain injury attorney can help you hold the negligent party liable and get the compensation that you deserve.

If you or someone you know has suffered a traumatic brain injury, you should contact Steinberg Injury Lawyers at 1-800-350-8888.
