We have all seen those pesky red-light cameras that are supposed to help keep you and your family safe. Many believe that the cameras are nothing more than a revenue generator. The question is - do they reduce the amount of Southern California car accident deaths?

A recent study conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that red-light cameras could actually save lives. The study concluded that from 2004 and 2008, red-light cameras saved 159 lives in 14 of the biggest cities across America. The study also concluded that if all large American cities utilized these cameras, nearly 815 lives would have been saved during the same period.

Red-light cameras are designed to capture digital photos of vehicles running red lights and deter drivers from doing so. Since T-bone crashes can be serious, many view red-light cameras as lifesavers. However, critics believe that red-light cameras only increase the amount of rear-end crashes
