Two seconds doesn’t sound like a lot of time. However, it can be the difference between life and death for a teenage driver.

Parents of teenage drivers share the same angst every time their kids get behind the wheel. There are the dangers of driving that have been around for years, but as technology progresses, do does the number of hazards.  Cell phones have only made driving more dangerous for teens.

As a matter of fact, a recent article in Seventeen highlighted the fact that taking your eyes off the road for just two seconds can double your risk of being involved in a crash. That’s why on September 17, Seventeen instituted the Two-Second Turnoff Day.

So, how big of a problem is distracted driving among teens? According to a recent AAA and Seventeen survey, approximately 86 percent off teen drivers admit to driving while distracted. This is despite the fact that 84 percent of them said they realize it is dangerous.

The best thing that parents can do to help protect their teens is to make it a rule that their teenagers turn off their cell phones before operating a vehicle. This decision can become a life saving one.
