When you hear tragic stories, such as the Anaheim car accident that claimed the lives of three people or the Ontario car accident that resulted in the death of a high school football coach, it seems like the number of traffic-related deaths are going up.  However, a recent report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) paints an entirely different picture.  An early estimate of motor vehicle accident deaths in 2009 showed that the fatality rate has actually dropped.

According to the NHTSA’s Traffic Safety Facts: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2009, nearly 34,000 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents across the country.  This number is about 8.9 percent lower than the previous year, which reported a little over 37,000 traffic deaths.  This decline has followed the trend over the last five years and the current fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles of travel is at its lowest in half a decade.

While traffic-related deaths have been steadily declining, they still do occur.  When you are one of the families affected by such a tragedy, it may feel as though your world is ending.  Dealing with the pain of losing a loved one in a Southern California car accident is devastating and overwhelming.  Problems only compound when the person who passed away was a financial provider.  If you find yourself in that type of situation, you are facing financial uncertainty, on top of everything else.

If you or a loved one has been seriously injured in a car accident in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside or other area in Southern California, you may be able to pursue compensation.
