According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the answer is – yes.

The Institute recently released a report that discussed driver protection in side-impact crashes. According to the news release, side-impact car accidents tend to be so deadly due to the fact that there is very “little space to absorb energy and shield occupants” when a car is hit on the left side.

The Institute conducts crash tests to determine the level of each vehicle’s side-impact protection.  Only vehicles with side airbags are studied. Researchers have found that when a driver is in a vehicle with a good rating for driver protection in a side impact accident, that person is 70 percent less likely to die when compared to a vehicle with a poor rating.

If you are considering the purchase of a new car, you should look into the vehicle’s side-impact protection rating. It could mean the difference between life and death.

If you have been hurt in a Southern California side-impact car accident, you may be entitled to compensation. For more information, contact an experienced California personal injury attorney at Steinberg Injury Lawyers by calling (800) 989-6385 or filling out our online form
