There are many factors which can lead to your teen being seriously injured in a Los Angeles car accident. News studies suggest that teen passengers pose one of the biggest risks.

The alarming facts

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that the odds of your teen being involved in a fatal accident:
  • Double when there is a teen passenger in the car with them
  • Are increased five times when there are two or more teen passengers riding with them

The differences between boys and girls

New studies conducted by Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and State Farm highlights the differences between male and female teen drivers and the impact peer passengers have on them. The studies revealed that:
  • Boys tend to crash due to reckless driving behaviors. The belief is that their peers are egging them on and their accidents are a result of showing off
  • Girls tend to become distracted by carrying on conversations with their peer passengers

Studies conducted by Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and State farm confirm the threats that electronic devices pose to young drivers. However, the study also concludes that peer passengers are more likely to cause a distraction, which can lead to a car accident. According to teens who were involved in an accident:

  • 71 percent of males and 47 percent of females said they were distracted directly by the actions of their passengers
